چکیده

• Environment, and its inevitable season-to-season weather variations, is considered the main source of fluctuation in vintage quality within a region. In a 1992 study, the ideal vineyard climate was described as one with “consistently warm days –not hotand consistently cool nights throughout the growing season, but particularly around veraison, when maximum carbohydrate accumulation for color formation can be achieved”. But how many of us have a vineyard in an “ideal” environment? Chances are our vineyards are in what we classify as a “cool” or a “warm” environment. Then, it is no surprise that, in a cool environment, the worse vintages happen in the coolest years –due to incomplete ripening-; whereas in a hot environment, the trend is reversed and the best vintages tend to take place in the cool years.

Modelling the relationship between climate, winegrape price and winegrape quality in Australia

An essential pre-requisite to exploration of the potential impacts of climate change on wine quality is to establish a robust relationship between winegrape quality and climate. Here, Australian wine industry regional scale climate and winegrape quality information were evaluated. A model that describes the climate sensitivity of quality measures for premium winegrape varieties grown in Austral...

Influence of climate variability on wine regions in the western USA and on wine quality in the Napa Valley

Trends in climate variables important to winegrape production in the western United States include fewer frost days, longer growing seasons, and higher spring and growing season temperatures. These trends have been related to a steady increase in wine quality and a decrease in year-to-year variability. While the trends in climate have been linked to increasing sea surface temperatures in the ea...

Factors that Influence Prices for Cool-Climate Wines: A Hedonic Analysis of the Market for Riesling

The price of wine represents various characteristics that differentiate each bottle, assuming that the majority of consumers use price as a signal of quality. Responses of grape berry anthocyanin and titratable acidity to the projected climate change across the Western Australian wine regions

More than a century of observations has established that climate influences grape berry composition. Accordingly, the projected global climate change is expected to impact on grape berry composition although the magnitude and direction of impact at regional and subregional scales are not fully known. The aim of this study was to assess potential impacts of climate change on levels of berry anth...

Changes in the phenology and composition of wine from Franconia, Germany

While the majority of the highest quality wine-producing regions in Western and Central Europe have benefitted from an increase in quality ratings due to climate change, traditional Franconian wine is in danger of losing its unique characteristics and its traditional spatial distribution. A long-term (1949 to 2010) study was made of reference vineyard observations in Lower Franconia, Germany. T...
